Since its origins over 60 years ago, skateboarding has been tightly connected to the worlds of MUSIC, FASHION, and ART. Skateboarding is a form of freedom and an art in itself, and it has always attracted artistic people. This workshop will introduce participating youth to the world of “skate art”. Each participant will receive a blank skateboard deck and sheet of griptape, which they will use as canvasses for their art. Paints and other supplies will be provided. Participants can keep their decks and griptape and turn them into complete skateboards (at their own cost) or hang them up as works of art. The skateboards and griptape will be loaned back to the library and featured in a library gallery space later in the winter. Registration is limited and priority will be given to new skaters, especially those who do not own a skateboard but have demonstrated an interested in skating.
