Elisabeth Horan will be launching her debut solo collection of poetry, “Bad Mommy Stay Mommy”, at Latham Library. Thetford poet Horan found herself in the grip of postpartum depression after the birth of her second son. In this debut collection, published by Fly on the Wall Press on May 10th, Horan finds the courage to survive, and she shares that strength with others experiencing this silent illness.
Horan finds herself influenced by the infamous Sylvia Plath, feeling an affinity with Plath’s own depression and turmoil as a mother. “Stay Mommy is a poem I wrote while thinking of her. To feel so bad that we might leave our children, is a darkness unfathomable to some. But it is real. I know it, she knew it.”
