Have you ever felt lonely? Isolated? Both? While they can be associated with depression and anxiety, loneliness and feelings of isolation can occur by themselves. We can appear to be doing well and even be happy, but still feel lonely.
Even before Covid and social distancing, there has been a loneliness epidemic in this country. Surveys indicate that almost half of Americans feel lonely, and a similar number feel socially isolated. With the pandemic, how has almost a year of social distancing affected you?
Please join Latham Library’s New Yorker discussion group for this month’s topic about loneliness and isolation. How do these human conditions affect the body, mind, and spirit? What can be done to alleviate these feelings? How do we cope in the coming months with prolonged social distancing?
To receive a Zoom invitation, PDF’s of the assigned articles, and links to supplemental materials about the topic, please email Nyarticles.Latham@gmail.com. This group will meet on Wednesday, Jan 27, 4 PM on Zoom.
