Nonfiction Book Discussion @ Latham Library & Zoom

Please contact librarian@thetfordlibrary.org for the Zoom link and to RSVP if you plan to attend in person (in case of bad weather, etc).

This month’s title: Friends, by Robin Dunbar

From group leader E D M Landman MD:

Friends matter to us, and they matter more than we think. The single most surprising fact to emerge out of the medical literature over the last decade or so has been that the number and quality of the friendships we have has a bigger influence on our happiness, health and even mortality risk than anything else except giving up smoking.

Robin Dunbar is the world-renowned psychologist and author who famously discovered Dunbar’s number: how our capacity for friendship is limited to around 150 people. In Friends, he looks at friendship in the round, at the way different types of friendship and family relationships intersect, or at the complex of psychological and behavioural mechanisms that underpin friendships and make them possible – and just how complicated the business of making and keeping friends actually is.

The book may be obtained from your local library, via interlibrary loan, possibly as an audio or e-book via ListenUp Vermont or in New Hampshire, New Hampshire Downloadable Books. Users need only get a barcode number from their local library to use the services. Or you can obtain the book from your favorite local bookseller, or via www.bookfinder.com, the aggregator site for booksellers both large and small from all over the world, and for books both new and secondhand.

All are welcome and we look forward to seeing you.

Blind Date Book Review Potluck (rescheduled) @ Peabody Library

Blind Date Book Review Potluck (rescheduled) @ Peabody Library

UPDATE: Since the weather was uncooperative for our originally scheduled event, we are switching up the plan.

Stop by Latham between Feb 14-21 to choose a wrapped item to read, watch or listen to, (aka “Blind Date with a Book (or Film)”).

Then join us on March 27 at Peabody to share your review and enjoy the sweet-and-salty potluck!

Our original plan had been the reverse – potluck with book selection, followed by individual reviews. This way will be fun too!

The titles are from our adult collection, but kids are welcome to come for the treats!
