Latham Library Adult Book/Film Discussion Group
Welcome to Latham Library’s Adult Book/Film Discussion Group. Every month, we couple a book with a film featuring a related topic or theme. You can choose to read the book and/or view the film.
Our book for April is The Sellout, a slashing satire and comedic rampage that eviscerates nearly every social taboo and politically correct sacred cow of contemporary American society, while offering a seriously honest reflection on race and identity in America. Written by Paul Beatty, the book earned the 2016 Man Booker Prize – the first for an American author – as well as the National Book Critics Circle Award.
Our companion film is People Like Us: Social Class in America. It pricks yet another taboo – the notion that America is a classless society.
To view the film, visit the library’s website www.thetfordlibrary.org and look for Kanopy Streaming Movies at the bottom of the left column on the homepage.
