Overview
As of March 17, Latham and Peabody are now members of the state’s largest public library consortium, the Vermont Organization of Koha Automated Libraries, or VOKAL, along with the OneCard borrowing system!
We are so excited to expand Thetford’s access to resources and provide a simpler way to borrow from more libraries!
What is Going to Change?
As VOKAL consortium members, we now have a new online catalog, Aspen, where you can search our Latham and Peabody collections along with many neighboring public libraries.
As members of the OneCard system, you will be able to take your Thetford card to other participating libraries (like Norwich and Bradford) and check out items there, too!
To support these changes, we are making some administrative updates so that our patron accounts and collections follow the consortium conventions. We are also folding in some necessary updates to comply with Vermont library laws.
We’re doing our best to make this as easy and smooth a transition as possible for all of our patrons.
What do patrons need to do?
At your convenience, you may do the following:
Login to our new Online Catalog
Check out our new online catalog. You can search for items in our catalog and many other libraries, and login to see your loans, place holds, renew items and update your contact information. Login instructions are available on the screen, but reach out if you get stuck.
New Patron Card
If you want to visit other OneCard libraries to borrow materials, stop by Latham at your convenience for a new physical card with our new longer barcode.
A sidenote on this: our patron barcodes are now longer (14 digits!) to conform to VOKAL standards, but don’t worry – they still end with your familiar 4-digit number, and we still won’t ask you to memorize them or to have your card on hand when you check out here in Thetford. It’s just when you visit another OneCard library that you should make sure to bring your physical card.
Libby Accounts – Need to Verify!
We are merging your new 14-digit account into your existing Libby account to retain your checkouts, holds, lists and reading history. Next time you login, you’ll need to verify your card using the new longer 14-digit barcode as your card number, and your password will be the last four digits of the phone number on your library account. Detailed step-by-step instructions are available at https://thetfordlibrary.org/online-resources/downloadable-audiobooks-and-ebooks/.
Kanopy Accounts
Kanopy users may see a message about being temporarily blocked with instructions to reinstate your account. Just follow the prompts on screen, and let us know if you get stuck.
Updating Contact Info
Next time you stop at the library, we will ask you to confirm that your contact information is up-to-date and to fill in any missing info.
New Account Setup (won’t affect all cards)
We may reach out to you if we need additional input to makes sure that your account is set up the way you want it to be, for example if your family shares a single card.
