Informal Nonfiction Book Discussion group
The next meeting of Thetford’s informal nonfiction book discussion group
will take place at Latham Library on Thetford Hill on Tuesday Ju
ly 26th at 7 pm.
We will continue to discuss SPQR by Mary Beard, the brilliant classical scholar whose writing style is as far as possible from dense acadamese !
Unlike many of our recent choices, SPQR – about the Roman Empire and what
we can learn from ancient Rome even nowadays – is a New York Times
bestseller!
Those who braved the construction on VT Rte 113 to attend the June
meeting had mostly not finished the book, so it was decided to continue
reading it for more discussion at the July meeting. So if you didn’t
attend because you hadn’t finished reading it in time for our June meeting,
you can still enjoy discussing it in July.
The book may be obtained from your local library, via interlibrary loan,
possibly as an audio or e-book via ListenUp Vermont
