Our next meeting will take place at Latham Library on Thetford Hill on Tuesday 24th at 7 pm.

We had a very lively discussion yesterday evening about the first volume of Patrick Leigh-Fermor’s memoir of his walk across Europe from the Hook of Holland to Constantinople, “A Time of Gifts”.   One of the participants brought an iPad and we were able to pull up pictures of some of the places he described, and we also followed some of his routes in the library’s atlases.

It was so enjoyable that we decided to go on to the second volume, “Between Wind and Water”, which describes his adventures in Hungary and Transylvania.

As usual, the book can be obtained from your local library, through interlibrary loan, from your favorite local bookstore or via www.bookfinder.com, the aggregator booksearch site which offers listings from many independent booksellers, as well as the usual suspects (Amazon, et al.).
