Welcome to Latham Library’s Adult Book/Film Discussion Group.  Every month, we couple a book with a film featuring a related topic or theme.  You can choose to read the book and/or view the film.

What’s life like from the point of view of a gifted bee who belongs to the lowest class in her totalitarian hive?  This month’s book, The Bees, is a fact-filled and dazzlingly imaginative fantasy and political thriller set in the world of bees.  A story of courage, conflict, and dystopia among social insects, it considers the value of difference and the evolution of racial identity.

Our companion film is the 2012 documentary More than Honey.  From a bee’s-eye view of colonies in California, Switzerland and Austria, it illustrates the plight and significance of honeybees.

To view the film, visit the library’s website www.thetfordlibrary.org  and look for Kanopy Streaming Movies at the bottom of the left column on the homepage.
