Local Author Talk: John Morton

Thetford resident John Morton is an Olympic skier and writer. Morton has participated as an athlete, coach, and team leader in seven Olympic Games for the United States in the biathlon event. In conjunction with the upcoming Olympic Games in Beijing, John Morton will be speaking about his experiences with the Olympics and his new book related to Nordic skiing, Celebrate Winter.
John Morton has participated in seven Winter Olympic Games as an athlete, a coach, the U.S. Biathlon Team Leader or Chief of Course, and three more as an enthusiastic fan. He has attended scores of National Championships, World Championships, Biathlon World Cup competitions, and the World University Games.
After 11 years as Head Coach of Men’s Skiing at Dartmouth College, he wrote DON’T LOOK BACK, a comprehensive guide to cross-country ski racing. In 1998, he published A MEDAL OF HONOR, a novel about the Winter Olympics. He has been a commentator for Vermont Public Radio, a regular columnist for Vermont Sports (a monthly newspaper) and his articles on the outdoors have appeared in more than two dozen publications. His third book, Celebrate Winter is a collection of those commentaries and articles which deal with Nordic skiing.
Morton is also the founder of Morton Trails and has spent the past thirty years designing more than 250 recreational trails and competition venues across the United States and abroad.
